about

A woman outside sitting at a bench with a black dog with a white face.
With my old dog, Bowie-wan Kenobi. Bowie joined me on many research outings and fun adventures across the eastern and midwestern US. Photo by Rudeen Handcrafted Ceramics & Photography.
I'm Bonnie McGill (she/her). I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania not far from where I grew up in rural Indiana County, Pennsylvania. I live and work on land stolen from Native Americans by European settler colonizers, including my ancestors. The area now known as Pittsburgh, PA is within the ancestral lands and rivers stewarded by the Seneca (O-non-dowa-gah), Monongahela (autonym unknown), Lenape (Lenni-Lenape or Delaware), Shawnee (Shaawanwaki), Wyandot (Wandat), and Osage (Wahzhazhe) peoples for many generations and into today.

I am an ecosystem ecologist, science communicator, artist, dog mom, and life long learner. You can learn more about me on the different pages here (menu across the top). Contact links and my CV are below. Thanks for stopping by.
